Movie review

One of the most popular films in the career of director Huston and actors Bogart and Hepburn, it is one of those works in which despite a series of problems during filming – everything worked out. It is even said that Bogart and Huston were the only ones not to contract malaria or dysentery because they drank hundreds of bottles of Scotch. The performance of the central duo is unforgettable: Hepburn is an old maid, a preacher’s daughter, and Bogart, the big-hearted and lovable Canadian captain. The two fight the Germans in the first war, cross the Congo in a little boat called the “African Queen,” fall in love, and win our hearts. Film critic and novelist James Agee collaborated with Huston on the script until he suffered a heart attack and was replaced by Peter Viertel, who rewrote the last scenes. The experience of this production was later told in his autobiography and by Viertel in Hunter’s Heart, which was made into a Clint Eastwood film.
